The Medical Council of India (MCI) on receiving frequent communications from Foreign Medical Graduates regarding acceptance of their Internship undergone in Medical Colleges Abroad has released an official notice in this regard on its official website.
According the official notice, the Medial Council of India says that the internship training completed by the Indian Nationals during their MBBS course in the countries like China was/is acceptable for the purpose of grant of Permanent Registration under the Section 13 (3) of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 state below.
“The medical qualifications granted by medical institutions outside India [before such date as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, specify] which are included in Part II of the Third Schedule shall also be recognised medical qualifications for the purposes of this Act, but no person possessing any such qualification shall be entitled to enrolment on any State Medical Register unless he is a citizen of India and has undergone such practical training after obtaining that qualification as may be required by the rules or regulations in force in the country granting the qualification, or if he has not undergone any practical training in that country, he has undergone such practical training as may be prescribed.”
It is not mandatory for Indian Nationals completing the internship training abroad to do 12 months of internship training in India. The provision is also applicable for the students completing internship training from other countries like Bangladesh, Nepal, Philippines, etc. The State Medical Councils are directed to take note of above.
