In a recent upgradation in the state of Arunachal Pradesh, new DNB postgraduate courses have been introduced for medical admissions in the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) by the National Board of Examinations (NBE). These newly added specialties for PG medical admissions in the medical college in Arunachal Pradesh are Anesthesiology, Obstetrics and Gynecology and Paediatrics.
Dr Moji Jini, doctor at TRIHMS informed that the institute had applied for DNB postgraduate course in four specialties including Anesthesiology, obstetrics & gynecology, pediatrics and radiology after obtaining letter of permission for starting MBBS course in 2018 to meet the requirement of more specialist doctors in the state. While DNB anesthesiology has been accredited for a period from January 2021 to December 2025 and DNB obstetrics and gynecology from January 2020 to December 2024 in the institute, DNB radiology will be accredited once the MRI machine is installed in the radiology department at TRIHMS.
The director of TRIHMS mentioned that two students have already joined the institute for DNB obstetrics and gynecology and also informed that the post MBBS-DNB and post diploma DNB courses taken up at TRIHMS on these specialties is equivalent to MD/MS and will be eligible to apply for teaching faculty in any medical college on completion of courses. The mode of selection for this course will be through All India NEET-PG. This step would not only improve the quality of patient care but would also widen the academic activity of the medical college, stated Dr. Jini.
