West Bengal to Come Up with 6 New Medical Colleges

The West Bengal State Government in coordination with Central Government has decided to come up with 6 new medical colleges in the state. The new medical colleges in West Bengal will be established by the Health and Family Welfare Department.

Each of these medical colleges will have an intake of 100 MBBS students. These medical colleges will be established in Aarambagh, Barasat, Jalpaiguri, Jhargram, Tamluk, and Uluneria. The colleges will be established under the Central sponsored scheme of "Establishment of new medical colleges attached with Districts or Referal Hospitals." The medical colleges will be built in North 24 Paragana, Howrah, Hoogly, and Purba Medinipur districts.

The Government has added that an approval letter from National Medical Commission (NMC) is needed for creating the medical colleges. After careful consideration, the State Government decided to come up with the following names of the medical colleges:

  1. Aarambagh-The medical college in this location will be named Prafulla Chandra Sen Government Medical College & Hospital, Arambagh.
  2. Barasat-The medical college in this location will be named Barasat Government Medical College & Hospital, Barasat.
  3. Jalpaiguri-The medical college in this location will be named Jalpaiguri Government Medical College & Hospital, Jalpaiguri.
  4. Jhargram- The medical college in the location will be named Jhargarm Government Medical College & Hospital, Jhargarm.
  5. Uluberia-The medical college in this location will be named Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay Government Medical.
  6. Tamluk-The medical college in this location will be named Tamralipto Government Medical College & Hospital, Tamluk.
