About Father Muller Medical College Date: 30-03-2020

Father Muller Medical College is a unit of the Father Muller’s charitable institutions, a society that is registered and sponsored by the Catholic Diocese of Mangalore. It was primarily established for the members of the Christian community but like all other Educational Institution under Catholic auspices it is open to all persons irrespective of religion, caste or community.

The Postgraduate courses MD/MS/Diploma was started in the year 1991while the MBBS started in the year 1999. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has accredited it with an A grade. All the undergraduate and postgraduate courses offered at Father Muller College is approved and recognized by the Medical Council of India.

MBBS Eligibility and Admission:

The MBBS course is for duration of four and a half years with a 1 year of rotating internship opportunity. The candidate must have:

Two year P.U.C Examination conducted by the P.U.C Board, Karnataka State with English and Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects or any other examination recognized as equivalent by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.
Intermediate Examination in science of an Indian University Board or other recognized examining body with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, which shall include a practical test in three subjects and also English as compulsory subject.
First year of the three year degree course of a recognized university with Physics, Chemistry and Biology including a practical test in these subjects provided the examination is a 'University Examination.
B.S.C Examination of an Indian University provided that he/she has passed the B.SC. Examination with not less than two of the following subjects-Physics, Chemistry, biology (Botany, Zoology) and further that he/she has passed either the qualifying examination with the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English.
Any other examination whose scope and standard is found to be equivalent to the intermediate science examination of an Indian University / Board, taking Physics, Chemistry and Biology including a practical test in each of these subjects and English.
Candidates must have obtained not less than 50% marks in English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together in the qualifying examination. In the case of scheduled caste, Scheduled tribe candidates, the minimum marks required for admission shall be 40%.
The candidates should have completed 17 years on or before 31st day of December of the year for MBBS Admission.

PG Eligibility and Admission:

The duration of the course is 3 years. A candidate seeking PG medical admission should be a graduate in medicine from a recognized university by the Medical Council of India and also one year of satisfactory rotating compulsory internship.

MD Courses:

The courses are offered in M.D. (General Medicine), M.D. (Pediatrics), M.D. (Dermatology, Venereology &Leprology), M.D. (Anesthesiology), M.D. (Psychiatry), M.D. (Radio diagnosis), M.D. (Pathology), M.D. (Radio-therapy), MD (Microbiology), MD (Biochemistry) and MD (Pharmacology).

MS Courses:

The offered courses in MS are MS (General Surgery), MS (Obstetrics &Gynecology), MS (Otorhinolaryngology), MS (Orthopedics) and MS (Ophthalmology). It also offers PHD courses in Microbiology, Biochemistry and Pharmacology.

PG Diploma Eligibility and Admission:

The duration is 2 years and an ideal candidate should be a graduate in Medicine (M.B.B.S) from any university recognized by the Medical Council of India, should have completed satisfactorily the Rotating compulsory internship of one year in an institution recognized by the MCI and the candidate should have obtained permanent Registration of any State Medical Council.

Father Muller Medical College (FMMC) Mangalore comes under the Father Muller Charitable Institutions. The college aims to evolve the students into capable and ethical medical professionals. Central Library

Father Muller Medical College owns one of the best Institutional libraries in India. The central library at FMMC is a separate independent building complex called the ‘Knowledge Centre’. The building has 4 floors. Along with the library units, there are also large conference halls with modern amenities present in this complex. The library unit covers 3195 sq. meters and comprises 3 floors. There are comfortable reading halls built in for students to spend time. There is also a coffee hut built in the basement to serve refreshments. Separate locker rooms are also available for boys and girls at the library.

The central library at Father Muller Medical College Mangalore contains all the academic resources from national and international publishments. The content involves both online and offline forms. The library committee offers user-based content to the students to meet their requirements more efficiently. FMMC library offers a large number of books, journals, e-books, etc. The library is also facilitated with high-speed internet connection for students. FMMC library also has additional facilities such as audio-visuals, photocopying machines, biometric scanners, OPAC, scanners, etc. The entire building has power backup in case of emergencies. Other emergency facilities such as fire extinguishers are also present.

UNESCO Chair on Bio-Ethics & Committees

The south Indian unit of UNESCO chair of Bio-ethics is located at Father Muller Medical College. The objective of this chair committee is to progress in the field of medicine while incorporating bioethics. The committee is in association with the Asia Pacific Network. The members get together to discuss and share knowledge on Bio-ethics publications by UNESCO. This association brings in a lot more exposure for the students at FMMC. There are periodic national and international conferences held at FMMC in light of this association.

There are also a number of other committees present at Father Muller Medical College to help students academically. This includes career guidance cells, research committees, scientific committees, etc.

Hostel

There are separate hostel facilities available for men and women at Father Muller Medical College Mangalore. The hostel buildings are built in a calming and serene location. It is designed architecturally to provide residents with a soothing atmosphere. The rooms are all spacious and facilitated with all amenities to make them comfortable. There are hostels designated for men, namely St. Joseph Hostel, Don Bosco Hostel, St. Christopher Hostel, and St. Aloysius Hostel. For women, there are separate hostels named Mother Theresa Hostel, Ave Marie Hostel (which consists of 3 blocks), Lourdes Hostel, and Carmel Hostel.

Sports

FR Muller College Mangalore has active sports and games unit that is fully facilitated. The P.E Instructor overlooks the sports activities. Different staff is assigned as student animators and staff advisors each year under the physical education committee. Every year there are different inter-collegiate sports activities conducted by FMMC for the students and staff. The college also takes part in multiple intra-collegiate activities throughout the year.

The college offers facilities for team sports such as Cricket, Volleyball, Basketball, etc. There are also indoor game options such a Chess and Table Tennis. Each of these sports has students who take part in official teams and participate each year against other colleges. Students win awards and trophies each year while attending tournaments.

Father Muller Medical College Mangalore was initially established by the minority population of the Christian Community. FMMC is now a fully-fledged functional medical college.
