Undergraduate Medical Admission Process

Eligibility Criteria

The Candidate seeking MBBS admission in Christian Medical College Vellore must have

Completed 17 years of age as on 31 December of the year of MBBS admission
Must have passed in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology and English individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology at the qualifying entrance exam. In respect of the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (NCL), the minimum marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together in qualifying examination shall be 40% marks for Unreserved and General-EWS Candidates. In respect of PwD candidates, the minimum marks in the qualifying examination in Physics, Chemistry and Biology (or Botany & Zoology)/Biotechnology taken together shall be 45% instead.

This is accomplished by a compendium of theory lectures, seminars, workshops, and internal assessment with written tests, quizzes, mock oral exams, DOPs, and OSCEs. In addition, in-hospital 12–24-hour call-duties, a dedicated four-hour session per week for academics which includes Seminars, Lectures, Journal clubs, critical appraisal sessions, and pro-con debates are conducted. Simulation-based training is conducted every three months focusing on perioperative crisis management involving a multidisciplinary team.

Established in 1932, one of India’s top ranked medical colleges, Christian Medical College (CMC) lies on the southern outskirts of Vellore city. It is a 200- acre wooded site that lays at the foot of College Hill harboring both staff and students in a symbiotic and serene setting.

CMC Vellore consists of two campuses. The hospital campus is located in the center of Vellore and the college campus is situated in Bagayam, somewhere 7km away from the hospital.

Library

The Dodd Memorial Library at the Hospital campus and the Gault Library at the college campus of CMC Vellore were established in 1960 are hubs of knowledge. Each medicine unit maintains a collection of essential books and journals in their respective libraries available at all times for its’ residents and students.

Apart from these medical libraries at the campus, there are also libraries maintained by the Chaplaincy Department where anyone is welcome to borrow religious and general reading books and magazines.

Teaching Hospital

Christian Medical College Vellore offers a variety of different medical courses, with advanced diagnostic and therapeutic specialties, along with primary health care facilities. CMC Vellore has nearly 2000 doctors and 3000 nurses. Most of these people are cater to the medical care unit, although some may also have teaching and research responsibilities. There are 106 wards in total, 39 major operation theatres, and 14 facilities for minor procedures. In-house diagnostic services are also provided by the Radiology Department, Nuclear Medicine, and the Laboratories.

Hostels

Hostels are an integral part of every college student’s life. It’s where the student gets molded into the person, he/she chooses to be. CMC Vellore has four separate hostel establishments for men and women, respectively. All hostel rooms are equipped basic essentials such as a cot, table, chair, fan, water supply, electricity, etc. Wi-Fi connectivity is present throughout the premise and a wide variety of Non-vegetarian and vegetarian dishes are served in the Hostel Mess.

Men’s Hostel: The men’s hostel also known as the “Mansion of Gods” is run by the Men’s Hostel Union (MHU), an elected governing body, responsible for the day-to-day activities of the hostel. The governing body, the resident warden, and the senior warden are available for assistance at all times.
Women’s Hostel: The women’s hostel or “Paradise on Earth” is run by the Women’s Hostel Association (WHA). Along with the governing body, there are two hostel wardens who are available for assistance at all times.
Dorothy Joske Hostel: This hostel is the residence of male Allied Health Science students.
Fitch Memorial Women’s Hostel: accommodates girls from 18 AHS degree courses

Sports, Fitness, and Extracurricular activities

Students’ Association with elected governing bodies, organizes activities that range from social service to sports and games to music, cultural events, and religious activities. An intercollegiate festival called Pegasus is organized every year for social-cultural activities.

Christian Medical College Vellore has a large playground for athletes, cricket, and football along with two state-of-the-art outdoor basketball courts, volleyball courts, indoor badminton courts, and two tennis courts are also available. An Annual Sports and Games Day is also conducted for healthy competition amongst the students and staff in addition to an intercollegiate games’ festival.

Auditorium

Named after the founder of the CMC Vellore and Hospital Vellore- Ms. Ida Scudder which hosts College events, students’ events, conferences, and family functions of CMC staff.

On-campus there is also the College Canteen, which is located behind the Scudder Auditorium serving a variety of dishes for the students of the medical college.
