Introduction of Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Delhi Date: 13-07-2020

Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences & Research which is located in Delhi is one of the Preferred Deemed Medical Colleges in Delhi. The idea of establishing an institution for medicine and its scientific research was the brain child of well-known Unani Practitioner Hakim Hafiz Abdul Majeed and then the idea was carried forward by his son Hakeem Abdul Hameed.

After the unremitting and consistent dedication and challenges, to set up the institution for community and empower the people with education and inventions, the scientific institution was set up between 1962 and 1989, by Hakeem Abdul Hameed which was named as Jamia Hamdard Deemed to be a university.

The growth of Institute continued its excellent on-go by establishing the institute of history of medicine and medical research in 1962 and the idea became fruitful in 1972 were the initial step was setting up a college of pharmacy, and gradually increased its existence and widened the branches in the various field of medicine (MBBS & PG Courses). in 1989 the university was given the status of a deemed university. The vision of the university is to provide avenues for medical education leading to excellence and to catch-up the Collaborations with the institutions whose vision matches to Hamdard university, grow and provide services together with the inspiration and moving spirit.

Affiliation and Recognition

Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences & Research is the Constituent College of Jamia Hamdard Deemed to be University and recognized by the Medical Council of India, also declared as the Institute of Eminence (IoE) by MHRD, GOI.

Courses Offered

Undergraduate Medical Course

The MBBS courses offered by Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Delhi is Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) with a duration of 41/2 years followed by a one-year internship. The annual seat intake is 100.

Post Graduate Medical Courses

The PG medical courses offered by Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Delhi are Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Master of Surgery (MS). The duration of the PG medical course is 3 years.

Entrance Exam

Admission Process

The process of counseling for MBBS admission in Hamdard Medical College is conducted by Medical Counselling Committee(MCC). NEET UG eligible candidates to take admissions in MBBS Course has to register for the counseling process as per the schedules declared by MCC to secure a seat in HIMSR Delhi. The allotment of seats will be through the NEET rank of the candidates.
