NEET MDS 2020 is a single national level entrance examination for PG dental entrance exam conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE). It is a gateway for admission to MDS courses offered by various dental colleges in India.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates seeking MDS admission in dental colleges in India should fulfill the below given criteria:

  1. Candidate must possess a recognized degree of Bachelor in Dental Surgery awarded by a University or Institute in India
  2. Candidate must be registered with the State Dental Council and has obtained Provisional or Permanent Registration
  3. Candidate must have completed or likely to complete one year compulsory rotatory internship on or before 31 March of the year of MDS admission
  4. In case of candidates who were nominated by the Govt. of India (under central pool seats) to pursue BDS from dental college in J&K shall be eligible to apply for MDS admission provided such candidates must submit a duly signed affidavit declaring that he/she was nominated by the Govt. of India (under central pool seats) to pursue BDS from dental college in J&K to the NBE along with the print out of NEET MDS application latest by 30th November of 2019.
  5. In case of Foreign Nationals, it is not mandatory to have temporary registration with DCI at the time of writing NEET MDS. The dental council may, on payment of the prescribed fee for registration, grant temporary registration for the duration of PG course restricted to the dental college to which he/she is admitted for the time being exclusively for PG studies. The tempirary registration will be granted subject to the condition that such candidate is duly registered as practitioner in his/her own country from which he/she has obtained his/her undergraduate qualification and that his/her degree is recognized by the corresponding state dental council or concerned authority.

Application Procedure

Candidates desirous of appearing for NEET MDS entrance examination are required to apply through on-line mode only. The following sequence shall be observed while filling the online NEET MDS application form:

  1. Visit official website of NBE and navigate to NEET MDS tab
  2. Click on New Registration
  3. Fill the Registration Form for Obtaining User ID and Password
  4. User ID and Password will be then, sent through SMS and Email
  5. Fill the Application Form with required details
  6. Upload Photograph, Signature and Thumb Impression ((Maximum 80 Kb size, in JPG/JPEG format)
  7. Choose Test City
  8. Make payment of fees
  9. Take a print out of the filled NEET MDS application form with transaction ID printed on it

NEET MDS Exam pattern for admission to MDS courses in dental colleges in India is given below:

11.  Method of Resolving Ties:
              In the Following descending order
              Candidate with lesser number of incorrect responses in the overall paper (Part A & B) shall be placed at higher merit position
              Candidate with higher score in Part B of the question paper shall be placed at higher merit position 
              Candidate who has lesser number of incorrect responses in Part B of the paper shall be placed at higher merit position
              Failing which, DOB of the candidate will be taken into account. Older candidate will be placed at a better merit position

Exam Syllabus

NEET MDS 2020 syllabus shall be that of BDS standard and shall cover all the subjects/syllabus taught during the BDS course as prescribed in the DCI Revised BDS Course Regulations, 2007 as amended from time to time. The subjects covered in NEET MDS includes following:

Counselling Overview

There shall be common counselling for MDS admission in all dental colleges on the basis of merit list of NEET MDS 2020.

The designated authority for counselling for the 50% All India Quota seats of the contributing States shall be the Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India. Further, the Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India shall conduct counselling for MDS courses in dental colleges of the Central Universities  and  Deemed Universities.

The counselling for MDS admission in dental colleges in the State, including dental colleges established by the State Govt., University established by an Act of State, Trust, Society, Minority colleges shall be conducted by the State Government.

Foreign National having undergraduate dental degree from a Foreign University/Institute can write NEET MDS exam without DCI registration. The DCI, on payment of the prescribed registration fee, may grant temporary registration to Foreign National for the duration of the MDS course limited to the dental college to which he/she is admitted. The temporary registration will be issued by the DCI to Foreign National only if such Foreign National is duly registered with appropriate registering authority in his/her own country where from he/she has obtained Primary Dental Qualification, duly recognized by the concerned Medical Council.

Eligible candidates can apply for NEET MDS exam by submitting their application form online on NBE website. The following sequence shall be observed while filling NEET MDS application form:

At the time of online submission of NEET MDS application form, candidate will be required to choose the city in which he/she wants to take the test. The choice of city will depend on test centre availability in a particular city and the allotment of city/centre shall be done on first come first serve basis. In case testing centre is not available in the State in which candidate prefers to appear in NEET MDS, he/she can choose the option OTHERS from the list of States at the time of selection of the State during online submission of NEET MDS application. NBE will make all efforts to ensure that the candidate is allotted a test centre in the State of correspondence address of the candidate. In case test centre is not available in the concerned State due to logistic, administrative and other reasons, NBE shall allot test centre in a nearby State.
